"Official" Preschool for Daphne

The days of homeschool preschool co-op have come and gone (*sniff*), and this year Daphne is enrolled in preschool at Living Savior Lutheran Church in Tualatin. Today was her first day - but only for one hour and the parents came along. She's in a class of 4-year-olds, most (possibly all) of whom attended last year as 3-year-olds.

They have the kids decorate these over-sized bags which they use in lieu of backpacks - to carry home giant art projects of all shapes and sizes. Here's the back of her bag...

Daphne was her usual friendly, cheery, unfiltered self. She's not afraid to answer any question (however rhetorical) with a detailed example, or just generally pipe up with whatever comes to her mind.

This year the school has an owl theme/mascot...

Adding the obligatory sunglasses to the sun...

Singing songs in the hall during a transition. The kid definitely doesn't have any assimilation issues...

Hooting like an owl in one of the songs...
Snack time (in which Daphne was heard to say quite loudly, "We don't pray before OUR snack time at home!")

About to leave. About to cry...

They also took this picture and sent it home with us.

Old News - Part 3

Old news is getting older all the time. Here's a beach visit from back when Pete was in China. My mum came along. See 'em down there on the left?
This was only our second time to the beach with the kids. I keep thinking this can't be true, but it really is. The blog record proves it - we didn't even bother going at all last year. We're just not beach people.

Daphne had been asking for a kite, so we brought one this time. She was interested for about 3 minutes. I'm sure all the parents in the audience can relate.

"The sun's too bright and there's wind and there's sand on me and Daphne won't let me use the kite and why did you bring me here and waahhh!"

James finally gets a turn. His interest drastically diminished when Daphne's did. Again, parents in the audience???

Well, Nana and I had fun with it anyway.
Few things have the power to cheer up a little boy more than rocks...
Some beach repose...
Oh, I'm sucker for these shots...

Signature...
And one for brother...
We'll be back to the beach in September with the whole Holman clan! Watch for corresponding blog post sometime in March...
